ARD FMCL: BEFORE A NEW DAWN
Pregnancy is a product of acts of intimacy between a man and a woman nurtured to term to be delivered of a newborn.
Liken this to the social contract between the leaders and the electorate and you wouldn’t be far from the truth. The leaders court the electorate like a pretty virgin seeking her hand in marriage with promises of hope, better living, fulfillment of dreams and fantasies. Election day represents the wedding day, when the electorate weds the leader of her choice. The leader nurtures this relationship by fulfilling the promises made during the election while in office. If within the marriage (social contract with the electorate),the leader fails in his duties, the bride reserves the right to divorce him, refuse him further rights to be her leader.
For everything under the sun, a time and a season is appointed. Today we are at another verge of history with our blogosphere daily updated with articles and pictures of our members who wish to lead us within the coming year. It signifies that the time for another social contract signing is close by. And as such promises are flying around, alliances are being made, bridges are being built on the basis of interests and counter interests.
Before the new dawn, it is pertinent we note that a leader is only as strong as the support and solidarity he receives from his followers. His strength lies in his followership. Our president was queried and faced a disciplinary committee for his actions for this association and we couldn’t suspend work for even a few minutes to stand with him during the proceedings. He was left to walk alone. How can we show strength when we cannot muster up to 30 members to show up for a solidarity march? Where is the love, where is the spirit of “all for one and one for all”, where is the spirit of “an injury to one is an injury to all”?.
The industrial actions of August and September showed our good, bad and ugly sides which led us to this great point of lassitude. The association today is a shadow of itself. We appear subdued, defeated, disenchanted and hopeless. Are we giving up on this association, who will be your voice when oppressed, who will stand in the gap for you, who will champion your course when there is no one? Only ARD will do that.
Brethren we are in unusual times. And it requires unusual methods to achieve things. We must do away with the conventional.
We are at a watershed faced with a choice of reviving the spirit of ARD, a spirit of unity, a spirit of doggedness, a spirit of activism, a spirit of determination in the face of repressive tendencies and oppression. Or we can continue with the blame games, who did what and who didn’t do what, wallowing in self pity and dejection.
Before dawn, the night is darkest. We must look inwards and find that which makes us thick. We must sincerely forgive one another with genuine reconciliation. Let us be our brothers keepers once more. Let us eschew bitterness and unhealthy rivalry.
We must chart our course now by choosing leaders that will unify us, lift our spirits up once more in genuine love, brotherhood, resilience, dignity and doggedness.
Let us keep our politics clean and respect one another. Our fault lines are many (Residents vs Medical Officers, GIFMIS vs IPPIS, Snr Reg Vs Reg,indigene vs Non-indigene etc), and our enemies know this and are exploiting this to their advantage. In all we are still members of ARD FMCL . Let us ponder on these as we prepare to go to the polls.
God bless us all.
Long Live ARD FMCL!!!!!
