Labour Without Pains

Today, i will refrain from complaining about the myriads of problems bedeviling the healthcare provision in Nigeria. I will not complain about the fact that Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has given the federal government 15days ultimatum to meet their demands or the fact that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) also gave the government 21 days to meet their own demands. I will not complain about the attitudes of healthcare personnel to their patients or the unavailability of essential consumables to aid the healthcare worker do his work effectively. Today is dedicated to the women, our mothers and wives, the good women of Nigeria who have played a role in our existence as humans. May The Almighty continually bless you all. The essence of marriage to the average African is to bear offspring that will take after them when they are gone and look after them in their old age. In order to achieve this a man and a woman shall come together, with the man donating a sperm

Doctor !do you really want to come back to practice in Nigeria.?

Image
Recently our senators urged doctors of Nigerian decent working abroad to relocate back home to practice and help improve our healthcare. As encouraging as this maybe, you may want to consider carefully before making the trip. Before your 'love for Country' pushes you back, ask what is your greatest motivation? what will make you come home and spend a week.? what will make you leave your comfort zone for the unknown and unpredictable terrain of Nigerian healthcare sector.? As you ponder on the above, i wont bore you with the fuel scarcity currently ravaging the country, i wont bore you with the epileptic power situation, the poor state of health infrastructure in the country,or the gross ineffectiveness of the personnel that will help you with this work or the massive corruption present in the healthcare sector or poor security situation. I will just try to compare what a doctor earns in the USA and what his counterpart earns here. Medscape in its 2015 Physician compensation

The leadership of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) & Assembly of HealthCare Professionals (AHP) met on the 4th of april 2016 to review the current situation of things  and consequently appealed to the good office of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) to set machinery in motion to resolve all pending issues within the next 15 Days.   It called on the government to consider that JOHESU leadership had shown enough maturity and restraint and urged that they reciprocate this act of patriotism.   In a letter sent to a medicalworld Nigeria dated 4th april 2016 and titled 'Re: Resumption of suspended industrial action by Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHES) and Assemly of Healthcare Professional Associations'; JOHESU referred the governemnt to a letter with Ref.No HQ/MHWUN/ADM/VOL.11/221 of 2nd february 2016 also on the above subject matter, in which a 15 day ultimatum beginning from 3rd of February 2016 was given.

Nigeria Health sector wahala deepens!

As predicted, our public healthcare sector is set for another showdown with the federal government over issues ranging from incomplete payment of salaries to the poor state of affairs in most public hospitals. These are issues that have been on the front burner for years. However what makes this most interesting is that The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have given the federal governmnet 21 days ultimatum to address these issue, and the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has given the federal governmnet 15days ultimatum to address their own issues. How this plays out in the coming days will be interesting... below is a copy of the communique by the NARD.
